Thank you in assist of receiving the time to speak about this, I assume strongly about that and cherish learning a lot more on this topic. If achievable, once you acquire expertise, would you head updating your blog site with more facts? It's incredibly pretty helpful.

Dear Rita:
Nomad, my 40 year old horse companion and connection to the spirit world, died in January. I've since moved to a remote rural valley in northern California and volunteer once a week at the tiny library. My young 9 year old trainer handed me your book this week and asked where I would shelve it? What an appropriately addressed message from my old friend. Your book is full of wonderful ways to connect to my new community. You are welcome to visit here anytime.

Peace, Joy, Happiness

Tori, Thanks for the blog promotion and your enthusiasm. It really is a great read. I don't get reports on pre-orders except for what I see on Amazon and B&N. I'm planning to send a listserv letter and Crown has said they would do a PDF of the opening chapter. I'll post the link. stay tuned. Rita

Hi Rita!

I'm in the same book club as Gwen and she asked me to follow up with you about possibly joining us via speaker phone on April 15 at 7:30 pm. I'm going to try emailing you as well. So sorry we missed you in NY. I'm one of those people that is interested in promoting the Gap Year!!! I still remember how horrified my friend was (she's a teacher) when I told her graduating seniors that I totally recommend a year off to explore! "But I'm just trying to get them into college!" she fumed. LOL
Today I was on a site visit to a school in the Bronx and was reminded again how valuable an international education can be. I meta young man who had never been out of the Bronx until he was accepted to a program last summer in Germany. At first he didn't want to apply because of "his girl" and he couldn't possibly leave her for 10 days. Now he visits other schools to talk to students about the program and will be returning this summer to Germany and Italy. He end up leaving his girl because "her world is too small, all she knows is the Bronx!"
Anyway, just wanted to share that with you! If only we could get more kids out of the Bronx for overseas experiences!
As a fellow backpacker, I really loved reliving my travel memories through your stories. And I have questions, so I hope you can join us April 15. Otherwise I'll be in touch again!

Lani (and any one else out there), How about stopping in the high school and asking them (principal and guidance counselor) if they would consider presenting to kids the option of seniors applying to colleges, getting accepted, and then asking for a deferral so they can do an international gap year. (High schools won't even consider encouraging a gap year if it means the kids won't be applying. Schools and counselors are rated on how many of their kids get accepted.) By September I'm hoping to have between five and ten pilot schools who would let our volunteers present the idea through counselors, language teachers, parent organizations... We will be working on a volunteer kit soon and we'd like to set up an after-school Let's Get Global club so students who think they might be interested can work on the idea. We won't be promoting any one program (the schools should know that we aren't a business!).....just encouraging and assisting kids to explore the idea....and giving them advice about how they can fund it. Just today I discovered that AFS has 17 scholarships to send people around the world to be teacher-assistants in English classes.

Gwen, Hi
I'm on my way back to DC on the bus (with internet!). I'd be happy to go on speakerphone with your book club. When I get back to
DC, I will have a look at my calendar to be sure there's no conflict. Write me an e-mail with your address and a reminder of the date and time and I'll let you know for sure. Check out my latest birthofamovement post. I'm about to write it now. (It's five PM on Friday.)
